Hosted SharePoint 2010 prompts for your username and password too often

Problem Description: When utilizing Hosted SharePoint 2010 the user is prompted for their username and password any time they try to open an Office document, Windows Explorer view, or Connect to Outlook.

Problem Resolution: BizCom Support has found that many variables can affect the user's SharePoint experience. Operating System version, Internet Explorer version, and Office version all play a part in the overall SharePoint experience. Below are BizCom's recommended settings to prevent most login prompts. These settings have been tested on Windows 7 SP1 with Internet Explorer 8 and 9 and Office 2010.

  1. Add the SharePoint site to the Trusted Sites in Internet Explorer.
    1. Open Internet Explorer and Tools > Internet Options (Click the gear and Internet Options in IE 9).
    2. Click the Security tab and then click Trusted Sites.
    3. Under Trusted Sites click the Sites button and add the URL for your SharePoint site (ex.
    4. If your URL begins with http (not https) then uncheck the "Require server verification (https:) for all sites in this zone."
    5. Click Close and then OK.
  2. If your SharePoint site URL begins with http (not https) apply the following Microsoft fix.
    1. Obtain the fix from Microsoft by visiting the following link and clicking on the Fix It button -
    2. Save the file to your desktop or downloads folder.
    3. Double-click the file and follow the instructions to install the fix.
    4. Reboot your PC.
  3. When logging in to the SharePoint site use the "This is a private computer" security option on the ISA 2006 authentication screen.
